The A-cat-emy
Awards!
You’ve
heard of the Academy Awards where celebrities are recognized
for their outstanding performances…. Well, we thought
it was time to recognize our TRUE heroes for the outstanding
roles they play in our lives!
In years past, The Bearen Foundation has held The “A-Cat-emy”
Awards at the Eugene Hilton. People nominate their pets for
a number of categories including Best Picture, Best Drama, Best
Pet in a Supporting Role, Best Trick, Best Comedy, Most Pampered
Pet, Best Costume Design, Best Owner/Pet Look-alike, and the
highest honor: the Lassie Award.
A
panel of celebrity judges cast their votes for the winners while
the attendees mixed and mingled. Guests enjoyed a full buffet
of hors d’oeuvres, bid on fabulous silent auction items,
and visited the various booths present from other local animal
organizations.
The
envelope please…. Participants sat in anticipation as
the celebrity judges read off the nominees and then opened the
“envelope” to reveal the winner! Winners received
a beautiful golden “Pawsker”, (our version of an
Oscar…!!)
A
special thank you to our wonderful judges from each year: Brad
Cohen of Brad’s Chevrolet, Alan Craig of 102.3 the Hawk,
Kristina, Terry Jonz, and Dennis Nakata of Magic 94.5, and Jack
Penning and Coleen Nelson of KEZI 9, Bob Broderick of KLSR Fox
TV, and of course, our local “animal-related celebrities”
who helped present the awards: Dr. Nancy Johnson from the Vet
Hospital, Johnni Prince from Greenhill Humane Society, Dr. Judy
Schroeder from Eugene Animal Hospital, Mike Wellington from
Lane County Animal Regulation Authority, Candice Kingry of Greenhill
Humane Society, Dr. Gail Schroeder of Forrest Valley Vet Clinic,
and Kathy Walker, a recent recipient of funding from The Bearen
Foundation. Leigh Anne Jasheway and Tom Overley emceed the event…
a big thank you to them as well!!
Keep
your eyes out for our third A-Cat-emy Awards... possibly coming in
2008! Nominate YOUR pet for a pawsker!!!
